Now in its seventh year, Bowel Cancer Australia’s annual Decembeard campaign starts today!

A hair–raising fundraiser held during the month of December (1st-31st December), Decembeard® Australia encourages men to grow a beard in the final month of the year to raise awareness and much needed funds to beat bowel cancer.

Beards aren't just for hipsters, grandpas, men that ride motorbikes or people that are too lazy to shave. Anyone can help make real change happen.


Perth man Andrew Moloney and his partner Karen Parker didn’t need to look up the answers to the 2019 Golden Nugget online quiz, which tested peoples’ knowledge of bowel cancer signs and symptoms and encouraged participants to ‘check their poo’.

Karen's son-in-law John-Ross had complained about symptoms for several years before he was eventually diagnosed with the disease.

Affectionately referred to as “JR”, John-Ross was married to Karen’s daughter Jo-ann.

A qualified mechanic, guitarist, and dog trainer, JR loved his wife, 2 children, dog, and pet turtle.

He was also passionate about music, motorbikes and the Carlton football team.


Bowel Cancer Australia’s bold campaign “Give a $#*! about your bowel” has again been recognised for excellence - this time at the 2019 ADMA Creativity & Effectiveness Awards (AC&Es).

In addition, the campaign was included in a very short list of finalists for the AC&E’s biggest prize of the year, the Grand Prix award.

The AC&Es are the industry’s most prestigious awards celebrating and rewarding the brilliant work of individuals, agencies, and brands, who leverage the power of strategy and creativity to deliver effectiveness.
